About the Site

A bit of background about the site:

Welcome to Welsh Welsh Cobs. An amateur project, set up by me, (Mili Peel), a cob owner living in Llangadog, Carmarthenshire (sometimes also called Dyfed) in South Wales.   I found myself surrounded by some beautiful Welsh Cobs & decided to have a go at helping some of my friends & neighbours add their studs to the web, to give others a chance to view what I am fortunate enough to see every day.

To help distinguish who owns what, I'll be giving each stud their own header photo.

Stud Headings

So on the left you can see Dani with Tireve Rosebud representing Dyrfal, centre left is Gornoeth Fortune Cookie, a 2006 dun filly of Rachel's representing Gornoeth, centre is Steve driving Tireve Tywysog Du representing Tireve, centre right are Twynmelyn Crystal, Snowflake & Welsh Maid, three of Delme's fillies representing Twynmelyn and on the right are two of my youngsters Ceitho & Madog representing horses owned by me, a nobody, far too chicken to start breeding!

To add interest to the site, I'll also be adding a few photos that I'll be taking at the various shows & sales that I go to. Go toHome +News & Events for more details.   You'll also find welsh cobs for sale here, mostly from the studs listed above, but with a few for family and friends too.

At the end of last year I compiled a gallery of some of the Section D Stallions I've captured in 2007 (click here to view), which I am already finding quite handy to refresh my memory as to who is who as I browse the Sales Catalogues!

I also have a page dedicated to understanding Welsh Names.  Click here to visit that.

I have now completed the Ultimate Stud Guide, which will list all the Stallions at Stud, from breeders with a website in the U.K  A monumental undertaking - almost too much for this design of website.  A European guide is now complete too, the Rest of the World Guide will follow at some point in the future.

WHY WELSH WELSH COBS?

The welsh cob has proved itself to be a versatile enough animal to be found all over the world * but it just happens that the Studs and therefore all the welsh cobs featured on this site are based in Llangadog, a small village about half an hour east of Carmarthen, deep in the heart of the county of Carmarthenshire in South Wales.

* Site stats show me that as well as lots of visitors from all over the U.K, I now have people from the following countries logging on to view the site:

France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, Austria & Switzerland.
Denmark, Sweden, Norway & Finland
Czech Republic, Georgia
Turkey, Israel & India
Canada, USA and Brazil   Hi to Flo in Manitoba, and Tamara in Tennessee, nice to hear from you. Come on Brazilian visitor(s) get in touch !!!
Japan, Indonesia, New Zealand & Australia

I love getting your emails & photos, whether from on my doorstep or the other side of the world so keep them coming, it keeps me going through the slog of collecting info for the site.

Promoting Studs is one way to help protect the future of the Welsh Cob, buying colts not good enough to be stallions, and giving them a better future by turning them into well handled geldings is another way that I can support their future. One more way I can offer support is by being a member of the Welsh Pony and Cob Society.

BECOME A MEMBER

It costs just £30 to be a member of the WPCS for a year (year runs from start of Jan to end of Dec regardless of when you join) & for that you get:

THE JOURNAL: this year’s journal is over 750 glossy pages of photos, many of them colour, show winners, sale toppers, stud adverts as well as events organised by societies and groups all over the world.  There are still loads of studs who don't have a website, so it is still the best way of viewing or contacting a whole load of studs.

THE ROSETTES: by being a member, it means that if you enter your Cob or part bred in selected shows, you will be eligible for the special Society Medals on offer for you and your horse.

THE MEMBERSHIP CARD:  my membership card has pride of place in my wallet all set for an opportunity to give someone a flash!

THE LOO PASS: when you become a member you can visit the members’ pavilion at the Royal Welsh Show and I hoping, although I haven’t tried it out yet, that there will be less of a queue and possibly nicer loos than the general public ones (perhaps with a few photos of some quality horses on the back of the door!) But then of course if we all join up, there might be a huge queue… hmm might need to edit this paragraph out…update -post Royal Welsh visit - its a cross between a  working mens club and a livestock mart cafe (not neccessarily a bad thing in my experience) in there but the loos were O.K.  No photos though! Do you think I should donate some?)

Seriously though, becoming a member does help the WPCS in their work tremendously & what a great club to be apart of. Ready to join up? Click on the following link to direct you to the WPCS site:

          www.wpcs.uk.com

and then click on the membership button on the right hand side

Incidentally, if you want to register pure bred colts & fillies in your name or if you want to sell an animal in one of the official sales, you will have to become a member, before you can receive the passport / successfully enter.

Since July 2007, its been possible for me to see the total amount of hits to the site each month.
