Despite making an idle promise to friends and family to only go to one event a month, I did just sneak a second show into May. Well, its just on my doorstep and the sun was out... By Cothi Bridge, some animals are really getting the hang of showing, and of course some new arrivals are facing their first tentative steps into the limelight. Congratulations to Hadyn Hudson, whose 1998 brood mare Maesyfelin Lady Survivor took the Supreme Champion of champions at the end of a long day.

Very well done to Dani Everitt, who took the M&M supreme championship on Oxspring Prince, (pictured above) and also to her son Daniel Copley who took 1st place in his M&M in hand class with Tireve Mabon. Whilst a couple of the classes were not brilliantly well attended, the quality of the animals which did turn up was, on the whole, very high: for example nearly all of the entries in the two stallion classes were attended by "top 3" placed animals from last year's Royal Welsh.

Supreme C in hand exhibit went to Parvadean Renegade, with the other C stallion, Laurtom Glyndwr taking the reserve. There was a bit of hoohah over class 16 as the brood mare, barren mare and gelding was run together (as laid out in the catalogue), so sadly some entries missed their chances, but all in all, the quality of the exhibits was very high, and I am sure I saw one or two animals that are going to do very well at the big show in July.

The quality of the brood mare class was exceptionally high, and I liked all the mares that came forward, but it was Maesyfelin Lady Survivor who won the overall in hand D exhibit, with reserve going to Mr Swistons 8 year old stallion Brynithon Royal Diplomat.
Fronarth Kelly Holmes took the youngstock championship with Ionos Ffion taking reserve.
Did anyone see the ridden championships from the morning classes? I missed them whilst bribing my 7 year old with bouncy castle rides, trampolines, candy floss etc, etc (we did manage to avoid the goldfish though) If you know the results, you could email me.

It seemed an eternity for the little uns to finish with the lead rein, then first ridden, then small breeds, (I'm sure I saw some of those ponies more than once), so it took a quick snarf of the "laminitis mix" aka red can cola and half a bag of honeycomb to rouse me before the large breeds took to the ring somewhere around teatime.
The ridden class had 19 of the 29 entries turn up on the day, so the win (and NPS qualifier) for Dani Everitt and Oxspring Prince was hard fought but well deserved. I know it is expected, but I've great admiration for all the competitors who waited so patiently with such well behaved animals, for their turn, after a very long day in the full glare of the sun.
Tireve Mabon behaved impeccably under the careful handling of Daniel Copley, but sadly he was pipped by the winner of the small breeds in the championships later.
