I packed my suntan cream and my woolly hat (just in case) for the 50th Anniversary Glanusk Welsh Stallion show, but in the event I didn't need either. There were plenty of thrills and spills, with many familiar faces from Lampeter from a few weeks back. Trevallion Stepping Jack seemed to prefer the sunshine of Glanusk, being the best placed C / D on the day, (pictured left). I did spy the Booths in the crowd, so would recommend keeping an eye on their site as there will surely be some much better photos of the Ds to be found there, as oppose to my hatchet job, of trying to get something of everyone, as well as the results for your delectation. |

There were some very strong C classes at Glanusk this year, with the Stallion class being particularly well attended. Bay roans had an excellent day with Bryncarreg Lightning Jack being awarded the Champion C exhibit. Best Youngstock Exhibit from the Cs was the 2005 colt, Moorcroft The Master, who also went on to win the overall in hand youngstock championship. Reserve / best female youngstock exhibit from the C classes went to the 2005 filly, Dycott Heulwen, whilst the champion yearling exhibit from the C classes was Ty'r Eos Fantasy, with Trenewydd Sugar Ray reserve. |

The sun came out and the judge had a good selection of animals in both the C & D ridden classes; Oxspring Prince taking the overall Ridden Championship with the Donys Hurricane picking up reserve. How fortunate that the ridden classes had finished before the (ahem) jumping classes began in the next door ring! Perhaps the show could start a new discipline. WHP in hand? That would be fun to watch!

Nearly all the D classes were well attended, with possibly the youngstock fillies showing a little more sparkle than the colts? D Yearling Champion and A,B,C,D reserve champion yearling was Crugybar Martha Morganna Mai. (I wouldn't want to play Grandmothers footsteps with that filly or her sister Mari Megan Mai.) Reserve yearling / best colt yearling was Degla Brenin. Best female youngstock exhibit was Abergaveny Viscountess, with reserve going to the aforementioned Crugybar Filly. Best overall Section D youngstock exhibit was Trefaes Black Flyer ,who was also reserve best in hand youngstock exhibit. Powysvalley Matty was reserve D youngstock exhibit. But it was the big boys who had the best result of the in hand Ds: Trevallion Stepping Jack was reserve best in show, beaten by the 1997 Section A stallion Eppynt Shot, an unexpected name for one unfamiliar to the As, but a beautiful animal nevertheless. Also featured at the bottom of the page are the other best in sections with Deri Brigadeer coming forward from the Premium Entries. |
