USEFUL SITES FOR THE WELSH COB ENTHUSIAST

www.aberaeronfestival.com  a website designed to support the wonderful festival of welsh ponies & cobs held annually near the picturesque town of Aberaeron.  Next  festival is Sunday 10th August 2008.

www.allbreedpedigree.com allows you to trace the pedigree of any horse which is on their database.  Lots of photos, progeny lists and other features, no need to subscribe or pay unless you want to start breeding racehorses

www.brightwells.com  is the online site for the Cob Sales Specialists, it is now possible to order sale catalogues on line.

www.llwynderw-horses.co.uk This, I promise, is my one and only promotion of dairy cow coloured horses.  A very nicely presented site, with, I have to admit, some rather nice piebalds & skewbalds on it.  The stud stallion "Cool Dude" is a handsome homozygous black tobiano warmblood.  So if you have a definite itch to go down this sort of route, you probably won't find any better place than this to do to your (um) scratching (so to speak).

www.rwas.co.uk the Royal Welsh Show Website, a good opportunity for the general public to see some outstanding Welsh Cobs & soak up the excitement that the breed attracts. (The fact that there are also cows, sheep, tractors, &100 of stalls might mean you can more easily persuade husbands, wives, mums or dads to take you to this one)

www.welshbreedsnews.co.uk  information about a newsletter for Welsh Pony & Cob enthusiasts, I am a subscriber to the newsletter and it is one of the few things that arrive in my letterbox that makes me put the kettle on, and sit down to read straight away.  Go on, give it a go!

www.welshcobs.info allows you  to view photos of hundreds of famous cobs, all sensibly arranged alphabetically within the headings stallions / mares or geldings.

www.welshcobshop.com  Found this a while back idling about looking for more cob stuff,  There's remastered welsh cob footage stuck on DVDs, other historic paraphernalia, as well as brand new showing kit. Click on the link & scroll down to the web shop as the site itself is still under construction.

www.welshstuds.co.uk  is a site dedicated to amassing all the sections - for a fully comprehensive directory - to which everyone can register FOR FREE. Better pay it a visit next.

www.wpcs.uk.com the official Welsh Pony and Cob Society website

OTHER WELSH COB STUD SITES

Whilst the Ultimate Stud Guide lists all the Section C & D studs in the UK that have a website, below are listed a few of my favourite sites.  They are all independent and offer something unique to the visitor.

www.aberaeron.net  welsh cobs & part breds from the Aberaeron Stud, which they provide in a variety of hues including palominos/blacks/chestnuts/ & coloured (mon dieu). Some really stunning photos.

www.abergavennycobs.co.uk  well what can I say, what a funky new site for the Batt family.  Modern and now completely up to date, I think the photo of their stallion Trevallion Picasso is one of the best ones I took that  year.

www.brenigstud.com it was impossible to refuse the two sisters who run Brenig Stud and I'm very pleased to have said yes as I like them and their cobs very much.  The weather on my visit really helped get some very atmospheric photos,  I am completely smitten by Brenig Tegan and Brenig Gwawr and ....

www.crugybarwelshcobs.com One of my most recent attempt at setting up a website, I am very pleased with the look of the site and can thoroughly recommend a chat with Carwyn if you ever have a spare hour or two, he's full of excellent stories about the past and the present.

www.derwencobs.co.uk  Can anyone have a cob without a Derwen bred relative somewhere in it's breeding?  Lovely looking site helped by those exceptionally prolific stallions.

www.dycott.co.uk A very dynamic site, run by a highly successful team, there are a wealth of photos and videos available to view.

www.dyffryntywiwelshcobs.co.uk  A simple website that I put together for Dai Williams, who has his own Section C stud, although you may also know him as "the bloke that shows for Hadyn & Ange, Maesyfelin Stud".

www.gwynfaes.co.uk   a comprehensively put together site helped by having a really popular stallion at   stud - it also happens to be bilingual.

www.llamri.co.uk  Just up the road from me, breeding just a couple of foals a year, but which always do well, another uncluttered website that provides you with all you need to know.

www.llangybistud.co.uk Ciliau Aeron (near Aberaeron) Stud, with Section D's , Andulusians, part breds, & jack russels, it's informative but remains a really clean site.

www.pennalstud.co.uk  Always a pleaure to visit, its definitely well worth a visit to see the lovely welsh cobs that reside at the stud not far from Aberystwyth, but for the times you can't make it, enjoy the website instead!

www.pensawelstud.com  another stud I enjoy visiting, they've some really super cobs over there and they are so amenable, its been a pleasure to sort the site out for them.

www.rainhillwelshcobs.com  a lovely looking site and an opportunity to view some of the excellent archive photographs taken by Anthony Booth over the last 25 years at some of the top shows (top quality horses as well)

www.renvarg.co.uk  regularly updated, these folk in Preston foal early giving you something to look at early in the season.

www.saithstud.com with a regularly updated diary, it is almost as good as having your own horse, without needing to smell of horse pee - all they need is a webcam!

www.taraco-stud.co.uk  a stud based in Canterbury which breeds some really good moving cobs which happen to sometimes be pallys and "duns".

www.welshsporthorses.com   Welsh Sport Horses International - Angelsey Studs comprising of Pentaran & Marchell & home of Derwen Trot-On amongst others, specialising in producing performance welsh cobs and part breds.

WHATS ON WHERE AND WHEN SITES

I'm so dozey and unorganised that half the time I only know I'm going somewhere a few hours before..  Maybe if I pay more attention to the following I can get better organised.

www.asao.co.uk Very, very comprehensive list of shows, with links direct to the shows own websites.

www.horsedates.co.uk   Moroccan cuisine for your equine pal. No not really.  Across the board equine events listed, including show jumping and dressage.  Very slick, easy to view site.

www.sioe 'r cardis 2010  website for the Ceredigion Fund Raiser - gives information about all the events that are taking place as the nominated county does it's bit to raise funds for the Royal Welsh. Including the Grand Open Day - a 3 stud event in June, comprising an open day at Pennal followed by Trefaes and finally Menai & Friarly.

www.wpcs.uk.com/shows Link to the Official WPCS Show page index, best way of keeping informed about judge changes etc.

COBS FOR SALE SITES

www.adhorse.co.uk/index.php  lots of filters, so you can get straight to area / price / type.

www.horsemart.co.uk my prefered site for selling. I like the ease with which I can add photos, tinker with the ad, and it  seems very good value to me.  Everything I've advertised on there has sold to the first people to view.

www.horsequest.co.uk
normally has loads of cobs for sale & is arranged so you can search for a specific breed or type

www.welshbreedsnews.co.uk  has a for sale section which features Welsh Ponies & Cobs from A to D

PLACES TO STAY & HOLIDAY IDEAS

www.mandinam.co.uk   If you want to visit and need somewhere to stay, excellent accommodation will be provided at Mandinam - there also happens to be plenty of off road parking for your horse box or lorry!

www.caeiago.co.uk
based not far from Llangadog, at a place called Ffarmers,  they offer plenty of welsh cobs to ride, as well as somewhere to stay

www.transwales.demon.co.uk    Run by the Turner family, what a great idea, a trail riding holiday on a welsh cob which you can also buy if you want at the end of it

OTHER SITES OF INTEREST

Gareth Thomas Farrier (DIP. W.C.F) alright alright there's no link to a website - but what would a farrier have on his site? Photo of shoe, photo of horse's hoof, and then contact details. Well I've cut out the need for a site or link  - heres his number: 07968 427967 or 01269 824711. Based near Ammanford, he covers most of Carmarthenshire.

www.hillponies.com  Website of the Dowlais Pony Improvement Society - probably more of interest if you are a Section A fan - lots of photos of ponies past and present.

www.breederoo.com  An opportunity to create your own website without needing to be rich or geeky.  Best of all you can update at your whim.  Costs a very small amount to set up and run.  So simple even your Dad could do it.

http://secondhandhorsestuff.com/  A very sensible idea of recycyling unwanted horsey items.  Give the site a look and see what you think.
