Wednesday marks the highlight of the in-hand day as the senior welsh cobs enter the ring.  A great selection of barrens, junior and senior mares were put forward for the judge to consider with Nelson Smith's 7 year old bay mare taking the ultimate Royal Welsh accolade, expertly shown by Dean who took the instant celebrity status very calmy and considerately.  Reserve Female D was the two year old filly, Foryd Fashion. 

The number of stallions that came forward for the Senior Stallion Class was fantastic, with a wonderful opportunity to see some of our favourites taking the centre stage. 

Champion Stallion was Mr Preston's flashy chestnut, Drogeda Stormy Tempest, with Felinmor Distinction taking reserve but it was Jack Bowerman's 2 year old colt  Danaway Scrumpy Jack that took the WPCS Gold Medal for best stallion or colt and also the Eddie Price Memorial for the Reserve Champion Exhibit. 

Wouldn't it be nice to see an award for the best handler in these two stallion classes?  If there was such an award, (or if in fact the crowd was allowed to choose,) it would surely have gone to the young lad (he must be a whipper snapper surely to move so fast!!) of Hendrewen Mr Tom  in the Juniors & for the Senior Stallion Class, the long haired missie shooting around the whole ring along side Malnor Forest King. 

Regardless of suitablity of "this" for the ridden job, or the stock getting qualities of "that" or the lack of bone of "the other", these classes continue to be the most watched aspect of the show, and as a crowd pleaser & introduction to the welsh breeds, you just can't beat it for a real goose bump inducing rush.  Now when I've stopped frothing at the mouth about it all, and caught up with the rest of my life, I promise to pick out a few more photos of these and some other stallions that weren't lucky enough to catch the eye of the judge but may well be your favourite.
