Champion Welsh Cob Under Saddle

In complete contrast to the previous year, the sun beat down all day on the bold competitors who braved the first year of combined classes.  There were a few thrills and spills, but the gelding class was the only one that really felt too large for the ring.  Extremely impressive gallops were put in by many of the competitors: that ring has one hell of a slope to it, even without a stand full of shriekers and whoopers, so full credit to those that really gave their all for the judges and the crowd.

The results were very close in the classes with many equal points being scored. Arwel Davies' 1995 gelding Nebo Joni Jones took the WPCS Perfomance Medal from Lisa Saycell's mare 7 year old mare,Toyside Lucky Lowri.

Later on in the day, over at the horse ring, and despite the searing sun, there was a large turn out  of Section C Ponies of Cob Type all vying for the coveted HOYS qualification.  Conformation and Ridden Marks were very close, but Tawelfan Red Robin (Saltmarsh Red Robin x Arddyn Black Beauty) took top place, but as he was already qualified, the HOYS ticket went to Maenan Roan Keating. 

Tawelfan Red Robin went on to also win the RWAS Championship Rosette for being the Champion Mountain & Moorland Exhibit.

The Section D HOYS qualifier was enormous, with barely enough room in the ring for riders to give their best and the inevitable bunching tended to occur.  How the steward didn't get mowed down as the riders were called in (in no particular order!) ready for the show / strip is a minor miracle. The going was hard and quite greasy, with many slipping as they applied the gas a little too early from leaving the corners.  1st, 2nd & 3rd had equal points, but it was Penstrumbly April Rose that took the HOYS ticket as she had scored one mark better than Oxspring Prince in the Ridden aspect of the show.
